On Saturday Feb 11 the Palatine High School speech team went to sectionals at Elk Grove High School.

Qualifiers Naomi Beckley in original comedy, Jessica Gul in radio speaking and prose reading, Daniela Ugalde in poetry reading and impromptu speaking, Mary Clare Hake and Keely McEnery in humorous duet acting represented PHS.

While none Palatine’s competitors made it to state, the seniors had a good run and everyone had fun participating.

“Honestly the best part of making it to sectionals is all of the love and support I got from my teammates.” Senior Naomi Beckley said. “The Speech team feels so much like a family, I’m so grateful for them, I couldn’t ask for a better way of ending my speech career.”

Speech is the one place where it’s okay to talk to walls, rub a peacock for good luck and ‘drop it’ in honour of a team member who wasn’t able to make it to the tournament and support his team.

“I’m so proud of all of them.” PHS junior Dolce Vargas said. “Everyone has worked so hard and they all deserved sectionals.”

Following the tournament, the speech team went to Lou Malnati’s and celebrated the season, giving awards and celebrating a member’s birthday.
