CW’s ‘The Flash’ quickly catches viewers’ attention

Since its October premiere, CW’s “The Flash” has made a speedy rise to the top of the TV ratings.

The show centers around Barry Allen, a forensic scientist for the Central City Police Department. However, after an accident in which a particle accelerator explodes, his life is changed forever. Barry is put into a coma, and wakes up nine months later in a laboratory with the power of super speed. Working with his new-found friends Cisco, Caitlin, and Dr. Harrison Wells, Barry decides to use his powers for good and becomes the red-clad superhero we know as “The Flash.”

While trying to prevent all the crime in the city, he encounters more people like him, including a man who can turn himself into a toxic gas and a girl who can teleport. Some of these people, known as “metahumans,” are just misunderstood and need help. Unfortunately, though, the majority of them are committing major crimes left and right, and it’s up to Barry to stop them.

This season has been totally unpredictable. From introducing time travel to a massive sewer gorilla named Grodd, there’s no way to guess what’ll come next. The biggest reveal of season one so far has to be learning Dr. Wells’ true identity. I really like how surprising the show is. It always keeps viewers guessing and anticipating the next episode with mysterious post-episode scenes, where something big always goes down. The producers are also sticking pretty close to the comics, which I appreciate as a fan.

One of my favorite parts of the show is the character depth. You can really see how each character has struggles, Barry especially. Obviously, he has the external struggles of fighting super-powered criminals, but he also struggles internally. Being The Flash hurts his relationships with the friends who he can’t reveal his identity to.

Each character offers something different to the show. Be it brains, love interests, or just comic relief, every character is relatable and dynamic.

Other characters in the show also keep it really interesting. For example, on the outside, Cisco is an extremely smart, witty, and fun character. Throughout the season though, we learn about his low self-esteem due to his parents clearly favoring his brother. Each character offers something different to the show. Be it brains, love interests, or just comic relief, every character is relatable and dynamic.

Season one of “The Flash” has had some real surprises, and with the season finale coming up on May 19, we’re sure to be in for some big shocks. If you haven’t seen the show, run as fast as you can to your TV and get to watching!
