Aiyana Ncube is preparing for Dance Show. Ncube is also practicing for her next performance for Poms. While this is happening, she is studying for her AP classes and advanced courses. Oh, and Ncube is also in Palatines Promise and Company Orchesis.

Aiyana Ncube is a sophomore at PHS and she is involved in countless clubs and advanced classes, from Varsity Poms to the rigorous AP US History course. Ncube balances all of these activities all while maintaining a positive attitude and bright mindset. As a leader and friend in the classroom, Ncube sets an example as to what type of students Palatine Pirates should be; positive, involved and dedicated.

“I drink a lot of caffeine,” Ncube said when asked how she gets through her chaotic day. “But seriously, I use a planner and try to plan my weeks ahead of time.”

When a student like Ncube is involved in so many demanding activities, it only makes sense that managing her time is one of her top priorities. However, time management is only half of the battle.

“Students have to be committed to balancing their workload and communicating between all their commitments when there are conflicts with an evening concert and another event.” Ncube’s Orchestra teacher Dung Pham said.

Ncube explains that her commitment is because of her love for performing and praise.

“There’s always a lot of things going through my head.” Ncube said.

This reflects many students at PHS who balance hard classes on top of sports and clubs, who also maintain a healthy social life. Dedication is one of the key aspects to success as a Palatine Pirate.

“There is not one person who hasn’t been challenged this year and Aiyana fits in that mix perfectly.” Ncube’s Poms Coach Ashley Mitchell said.

With such a demanding schedule, Ncube faces challenges almost everyday whether it be finding time to study, nailing that perfect move in her dance routine, or being able to get a good night’s rest. But one of the most rewarding aspects is when conquering these challenges pays off with praise.

“Aiyana is a wonderful person.” Mitchell said.

Ncube proves herself to be such a wonderful person with her bubbly personality and contagious friendliness.

“The best thing about it is seeing the stands filled and having so many people cheering for you,” Ncube said when asked why she challenges herself like this.

“It’s so fulfilling.”

Ncube represents exactly what is it to be a Pirate, and many can learn from her hardworking and dedicated mindset.
