The new school year started early on Aug 12, and while some clubs are still waiting to start, PHS’s Yearbook Club is already starting up for returning members and open for newcomers.
Co-editor-in-chief Hanan Habahbeh worked on the theme, layout, and design of the yearbook during the summer in order to prepare for this year’s many events and extracurricular activities Yearbook Club covers. She also convened with editors working on specific sections of the yearbook to make sure that they’re prepared for the workload.
“Being an editor is a full-time job,” said co-editor-in-chief Habahbeh. “It’s important to not fall behind, otherwise we miss out on a lot of important things going around PHS.”
Besides the editors-in-chief, section editors like Karina Orozco are also working on organizing for upcoming events.
One task includes compiling stats and an overview for fall sports, which Orozco has been focusing on since the summer. This year, she hopes to focus more on the players and the life they bring to their sport in the yearbook.
“I already made a calendar and everything so I can plan when I’ll get stats,” said Orozco. “I want to make sure the sports section is perfect and no player is missed.”
While every editor is working hard, Yearbook Club always needs more people to finish on time–specifically willing students who want to become more involved at PHS, whether it’s designing a page or two, interviewing staff and students or taking pictures.
Habahbeh and staff will be manning the yearbook table at the upcoming Activity Fair to raise awareness and persuade students to join the Yearbook Club.
The next meeting for all returning and new members is Aug. 22 after school in Room 195.
Yearbook meets every day after school in Room 195. All artists, photographers, writers, and “innovative thinkers” are welcome. There’s something for everyone in Yearbook, and the editors-in-chief want the club to be a dependable spot for creativity and fun.
“We have so much to do this year and I’m nervous, but also really excited,” said Habahbeh. “Everything’s worth it when I get to flip through everyone’s hard work.”
