“Three different Saturdays, we’ll have a quad tournament,” Varsity Coach Christy Azriel said. “And in those tournaments my goal is to be as successful as possible in them.”
Within these weekly Saturday tournaments, PHS players face off against other schools, pitting them against the likes of Cary-Grove, Wheeling, Huntley and Maine West high schools. Making each match a worthwhile experience. Azriel trains her players especially for these tournaments. She holds joint training sessions between skill divisions in preparation for the quads.
“My goal, personally, is that we place as high as we can in those tournaments,” Azriel said. “I have a ton of seniors this year, so I would love to be able to be successful for them on that side of things.”
Azriel expressed that she wanted to win these quad tournaments just as they did previous years. She also shared that as a collective program across all levels, they would meet to discuss the individual goals of all players. discussing what they wanted to achieve during their time on the team this season.
“For this season I’m just gonna try and do the best I can,” JV tennis player Kathwren Reiprich said. “It would be great if I could keep playing in college, but those leagues are very advanced, so maybe I’ll just keep playing tennis as a hobby, but learning tennis is definitely a life skill.”
Reiprich as a player was only in her second year of tennis but saw tennis as a life skill. She believes playing tennis builds her both physically and mentally allowing her to become healthy in both the mind and the body.
