As the halfway point passes for fall sports and the seasons move into their final stretch the girls swim team has goals set out for the remaining meets and high hopes despite their low numbers.
One of the girls varsity swimmers sophomore Vivian Myers has some big goals for this season and for the future. “I’m trying to get my 50 free time down to like a low 25 maybe even a high 24 so I can maybe go to state next year or my senior year,” Myers said.
Myers also talked about her improvements during this season so far. “I think my strength when it comes to my strokes is my 50 free, specifically how many breaths I’m taking on my 50 free.”
As the final stretch of the season approaches it is important for any sport, but especially with swimming (which is more of an individual sport), to stay motivated and encourage each other.
When asked about what keeps her motivated Vivian answered, “I’d say the people around me.” She highlights the importance of encouraging each other and having a positive team environment to be able to stay motivated in the most difficult parts of the season.
“Some goals I have would be for everybody to try an event that makes them feel uncomfortable, maybe something they have never really done before,” Varsity Coach Katie Mroz said.
She wants her swimmers to push themselves and try new events that might not be in their comfort zone. With the wide variety of events in swimming branching out and trying new ones can be difficult but she sees it as very important to try new things and challenge yourself.
Mroz has high hopes for this team. “This group is extremely positive and very hard working,” she said. With sectionals in November and the end of the season approaching, the swimmers will keep working hard and reach their end of season goals.
