The D211 Board of Education voted today to extend the search for a new superintendent, originally scheduled to conclude by Oct. 17. The Board determined that more time was necessary to make a final selection.
“We are all in agreement that our ultimate goal is to hire the right superintendent and begin the transition process,” said Board President Anna Klimkowicz. She confirmed that while they have already interviewed several “wonderful” candidates, the board needs more time to narrow down the selection.
Board Vice President Steven Rosenblum initially proposed an amendment to set a deadline of Dec. 12 for the search’s conclusion. However, he withdrew the amendment after other members expressed a preference for an open-ended timeline. The motion to extend the search without a specific end date passed unanimously.
“The motion to extend the superintendent search beyond Oct. 17, 2024, without a specific end date is carried,” Klimkowicz said.
The current superintendent, Lisa Small, will retire in the summer of 2025. Earlier this year, the Board hired the search firm Hazard Young Attea & Associates (HYA) to assist in finding a new leader for the district.
