Palatine High School’s Trick or Treat Fest was on Oct 24 this year. This fest was organized by many clubs, each featuring different carnival games and themes while handing out candy for children to enjoy.
The children weren’t the only ones to enjoy this event, as the volunteers enjoyed setting up the event and welcoming the children.
“Honestly, I love seeing the kids smile and I think this is a good addition to the school,” Freshman Club member Anthony Patrick Velazquez said. “You know, having this raises morale and in general, people.”
The fest also ensured children’s surroundings weren’t too terrifying so that they were still able to have fun and be surrounded with other children of similar ages.
The fest was a hit once again, bringing in many children and their families to the school. Some themes included Día de los Muertos, mazes and mini games like ring toss and more. Not only were the children happy, but the volunteers as well.
“[I would] definitely do this again next year,” HOSA member Alondra Mairin Sanchez said. “I’m working, getting my hours in and I’m still having fun with my friends.”
Without staff and student volunteers, the event would not have been possible. For over two hours, the volunteers set up their themed rooms and handed out Halloween decorations or candy. Some clubs offered snacks and food out to the student volunteers as well in order to tempt the students into participating in the event.
