Palatine High School is one of the D211 high schools that will host the annual Young Hearts for Life (YH4L) event on site. This reputable event, occurring on Nov 19, offers free cardiac screenings to all registered students, and does not require any form of medical insurance or payment.
“I think the big thing is that it is free for all of our students at PHS and there isn’t much of a time commitment,” PHS event sponsor Ashley Volgi said.
Students are encouraged to take advantage of this service as ECG screenings can help with early identification of 70% of conditions that can cause sudden cardiac arrest. “It’s a great opportunity and could save lives,” Volgi said.
To take part in this screening that will be held during wellness classes, students must have parents or guardians register them for the event.
It is completely optional for whether students participate or not, however the Y4HL event ensures that the confidentiality and privacy of students who do decide to participate will be upheld throughout all aspects of the program.
More information about the program can be found on the official Y4HL website, https://yh4l.org/. Students interested in registering for the upcoming program can do so at https://screenings.yh4l.org/YH_enroll.aspx?echo=false Registration closes at noon on Monday, Nov 18, 2024.
