Get ready to dance, eat, and play next Saturday at Palatine’s first Latinx Dance!

This year, Palatine will host the Latinx dance Vaqueros en la Pista, or Cowboys on the Runway. Sponsored by the students in Organization of Latinx Students (OLAS) across the district, there will be games, a dance floor, and Latin American foods.

Lizbeth Arreola, one of OLAS’s sponsors, welcomes everyone, regardless of their background, to come and enjoy Latin American culture through music and fun. She hopes that the dance demonstrates the warmth and authenticity of Latin American culture. 

“If you’ve never been to a quinceñeara, this would be a perfect event to attend,” Arreola said. “I think people will also really understand how our Latino culture is warm and inviting.”

The Vaqueros en la Pista dance will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 7 to 10 PM in the student cafeteria. Arreola and other OLAS sponsors will be selling tickets for 5 dollars in the main hallway during lunch periods during Feb. 12 and Feb. 13. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door starting at 6:45 PM. In order to get in, students must also bring their student ID. 

While the dance is somewhat new to the district, and definitely new to Palatine, Arreola hopes that everyone will give it a chance and find a good time.

“I hope that everyone gives it a chance,” Arreola said. “Come and experience something new.”
