The Palatine High School girls volleyball team secured two consecutive victories this week, showcasing teamwork and resilience. The Pirates defeated the Prospect Knights on Tuesday evening followed with a solid win against the Schaumburg Saxons on Thursday night.
Against Prospect, the Pirates lost the opening set 21-25. Instead of giving up, they stormed back and won the next two sets 25-19 and 25-21. This energy carried into their matchup against Schaumburg.
The Pirates again fell in the first set 25-20 before pulling out a thrilling 28-26 win in the second. The hard fought win gave the Pirates the momentum they needed to dominate the third set 25-11, leaving no doubt about who the stronger team was.
Varsity setter Alaina Ratay credits the team’s recent success to the team’s bond. “The chemistry this year is really good, Ratay said. “The team has a mix of Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors and we’re all very close. Hopefully we’ll just keep winning and do well this season.”
With the victories, Palatine improved to 8-2. The comeback wins have generated excitement within the team and school. The energy during the games paired with the team’s comeback spirit has the team feeling confident heading into their next challenge.
The Pirates face Wheeling and Conant this week as they aim to build on their recent success and prove they can stay consistent throughout the season.
