Theme park Six Flags Great America in Gurnee started their Halloween event, Fright Fest, on Sep. 13. This year, it is more exciting and scarier than ever, introducing new scare zones, haunted houses, and shows.
Different scare zones cover different areas of the theme park where scare actors will roam the midways of the park. Three new scare zones were introduced this year. These scare zones are called “Oddities Circus of Madness” (Mardi Gras area), “Head Bangerz” (near the X-Flight roller coaster), and “Los Muertos” (Southwest Territory area).
One new haunted house is introduced this year. “The Conjuring Universe” is based on the movie franchise and is near the Roaring Rapids. There are four other haunted houses from last year as well. If you plan on doing haunted houses, you must have the haunted house pass which costs additional money and is not included with entry.
New shows have been added for Fright Fest. “Wake the Dead” is a whodunnit musical with four endings and “The Wraths” feature drummers. “The Uprising: Nightly Call of the Dead” starts at 5:45 p.m. and marks the beginning of Fright Fest but has been revised this year to include “Rakshasa” which their newest roller coaster Wrath of Rakshasa is based on.
For guests wanting a scare-free experience, the park’s family-friendly event Kids Boo Fest will run until 6 p.m. After that time, Fright Fest begins.
It’s important to note that Six Flags strongly enforces their chaperone policy for guests starting at 5 p.m. Those who are 15 years old or younger must enter the park with a chaperone who is 21 years old or older and remain with them throughout their entire stay. The chaperone must provide proof of identification that is government-issued, like a driver’s license or passport. Additionally, those who are 16 and older might also be asked to provide a valid proof of identification.
