‘Tis the Ugly Christmas Sweater Season
December 10, 2015
Yes, get excited, it is that time of the year again. It’s time to change your radio stations to 93.9 FM strap on your santa hats and enjoy some hot cocoa while watching the snow fall. It’s Christmas time.
With the season of giving and, more importantly, getting comes the need to spread Christmas cheer loud for all to hear. Of course, to get into the holiday spirit, putting up decorations is good, but even better, dressing up your attire- ugly Christmas sweater style.
Every year the last day of school before the new year is met with PHS students of all ages wearing their most legendary ugly christmas sweaters. Now, even though this isn’t an official spirit day, it’s come to be very common not only in PHS, but also in other d211 schools. This unofficial day has even found its way to the spirit teams at PHS. Palatine cheer, poms, and flags have been seen wearing ugly Christmas sweaters on top of their uniforms to show their school spirit.
Ugly Christmas sweater day is my personal favorite of all PHS spirit days (even though it’s unofficial) and I will surely be celebrating this wonderful occasion again.
If you’re midway through this article and panicking because you don’t have an ugly christmas sweater, don’t fear, I have the solution for you. First, ask your grandparents or parents if they own any atrocious sweaters. If that doesn’t work, check out your local thrift stores such as Savers, Wings, or Goodwill. The only downside of shopping at your local thrift stores, as I am speaking from experience, ugly Christmas sweaters are a hot commodity and can disappear from these stores very fast. Be sure to get your sweater soon! If buying a sweater doesn’t work for you, you can make one too! Just buy a sweater or a vest, some random mismatch materials, and some yarn or a hot glue gun-make the best of what you’ve got!
So mark your calendars, Pirates, Dec. 18 is ugly Christmas sweater day- the best day of the year because it is socially acceptable to wear an ugly sweater!
