To people who are interested in photography, fashion, and Bill Cunningham, this film is for you!
Richard Press’s film, Bill Cunningham New York presents a different perspective for photographers. When one hears the word photography, they often say, “Oh, it’s just another picture.”
Bill had an alternative view on photography. His view was fashion. Few are aware of his personal life. He barely spent time in his studio. Cunningham was task oriented. He was a freak about riding a bike around town. Besides being a columnist for On the Street documents, he clicked pictures of ordinary individuals on the streets of New York.
The audience for this documentary is for freelance and fitting future photographers. This film is very good because it features the way in which one thinks about another. Showing the essential steps towards the way things are done.
Through the whole film, the filming techniques were great! An effect incorporated were snapshots. Those which Bill took while walking the streets of New York. In doing so, the viewer can really get a feel of the first perspective with Bill Cunningham.
Towards the end of the film, the music correlated with the scenery. Voiceovers were made in ways that the individual would feel important. Since it was about a man who loved photography, there weren’t any other visual or audio effects that were incorporated.
The moral the film conveys is that, “fashion is the armor of everyday life.” You should never judge the book by its cover. As a matter a fact, it happens in everyday life. In the film, Bill did this by only photographing the unique aspects. The methods used were the dialogue and the photographs. The thing that inspired Cunningham is being artistic in what he does.
In my opinion, the film was very good. The cast portrayed a very distinguish thing for any community. It played a catchy plot, showing the variety of difference that a photographer’s thought can encounter. What I liked about it the most was that it was a relatable film.
From a photographers view, I took things into consideration for myself. I would recommend this film to photography lovers and those who see something different in life.
