Classic movie review: Just Go With It
January 31, 2017
In the movie Just Go With It, Danny Maccabee (Adam Sandler) is about to get married to the love of his life, until he finds out she’s a gold digger after overhearing her talking to her bridesmaids. She says that she’s already got her eye on some other man and she only wanted to marry him because he’s a plastic surgeon. After Danny’s horrible heartbreak, he heads to a bar and sleeps with a really attractive woman. He realizes that he can use his wedding ring as a way to pick up girls because they feel bad for him and his situation, so he continues to do this for the next few years. But eventually, he ends up falling in love with a woman that caught on to his lie.
This comedy is generally meant for young adults/grown ups. The audience can relate to wanting to have a relationship with no strings attached. It also shows how the aspect of lying eventually catches up with you.
The three main characters in this movie are Danny Maccabee (Adam Sandler), Katherine Murphy (Jennifer Aniston), and Palmer (Brooklyn Decker). Adam Sandler plays the role of the lying player who gets his heart broken. Brooklyn Decker plays the role of the woman who Danny Maccabee has fallen in love with. Jennifer Aniston is his assistant in the movie who later has to pretend to be his fake wife in order for Palmer to believe that he was married and is now getting a divorce with her. They all did an outstanding job making thes roles relatable and interesting.
In this movie there are a lot of hilarious, romantic, cute scenes. The music adds to these scenes by creating more tension or comedic relief. For example, in one scene Katherine walks in for the first time looking absolutely gorgeous; a total transformation from what she usually looks like, created by the slow-mo effect and the music.
The overall message that the movie is trying to convey is that avoiding your problems and lying your way through them isn’t going to help in the long run. Danny used lies to get women to sleep with him, but after finding somebody that he might want to spend the rest of his life with, he realizes that his web of lies is going to screw things up for him. This is a message that a lot of people can relate to through personal experience, so it makes the movie more interesting to watch.
This movie is one of my favorite romantic comedies. It’s hilarious and the plot is pretty unique. The drama in this movie never ends and there’s a perfect amount of romance that’s not too cheesy. I really like Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston working together in this movie because they made it seem so genuine and real. I recommend this film to people who enjoy romantic comedies and appreciate weird, hilarious jokes.
