Humans of Palatine: Eric Millstone

“I am the head boys basketball coach, and I also help run the new educator mentor program, myself and another teacher help kinda break in the new teachers.”

“People ask me all the time about my favorite genre of music. I kinda like pop country, I also like alternative, but I will really listen to pretty much anything. I don’t know if I have a favorite band, but I’ve got favorite solo artists that I listen to more than others. If we’re talking country music, I like Thomas Rhett, Keith Urban, Eric Church. I am also a big Bruce Springsteen fan. I like the Foo Fighters a lot, and Weezer. I like Learn to Fly by Foo Fighters, and a lot of the time, I don’t know names of songs since music has gone digital. When we used to get CDs, tapes, and albums, I used to know every name of every song, but now I don’t. There’s kinda more of a mellow Foo Fighters song, Next Year. Learn to Fly, Walk, are also good songs. I’ve got a lot of different tastes in music.”

“I don’t have a favorite song I keep going back to but anything from those artists that I listed, I like, but there’s not one song really that is a favorite.”

“With my Covid Experience, y’know what, I’ve always kinda had in life just to take things and strive, just go with the flow kinda thing. I would say I wasn’t too rattled, I didn’t like it, but there was nothing we could really do about it, and being an older teacher it actually wasn’t a bad break in the routine for doing the same thing for 20-some years to be able to have a year like we did. We now have stories to tell our grandchildren and students down the road, so I didn’t like it, but at the same time we tried to make the most of it.”

“When I was in college I was going to major in English or History, then talking with a few human resources people, they said honestly I have a better chance of getting an English position right away. Being able to teach American Studies kinda gives me the best of both worlds as I really like history.”
