College after high school is a reality for many individuals who need an associate’s or bachelor’s degree for their desired career. Whether you want to go into the medical field or even go into a certain program, community college can give a head start to any individual who needs to save money or get basic classes out of the way. Whether an individual wants to be at a public or private university, to only at a community college; around the world they try to add onto their knowledge and attempt to get a degree for their career.

In my reality, community college is seen to be a step into the career that I desire. Financially, Harper College is reasonable with ten thousand two-hundred and sixty two dollars annual tuition while Illinois State University is twenty seven thousand, eight-hundred and seventy four dollars annually. If a student were to take the basic classes and getting those out of the way, you would be saving over thirty-thousand dollars. The tuitions do not include room and board if the plan involves staying in a dorm.

Jacob Richter, a sophomore at Harper College decided to go to Harper first before university and law school. “Harper was basically free with all of the scholarships and it is cheaper than going to university for only my gen-eds.”

Harper is also a great starting point if there is not a plan that is complete for a career. Many individuals go to university colleges and change that path in which they want to go. The better alternative would be going to a community college and making sure that the career is the correct choice.

“I don’t want to go to a university not knowing completely what I want to do.” Palatine High School senior Jasmin Rodriguez commented. “I want to decide while at Harper and go to a university fully aware and prepared.”

Going in the direction of being prepared and taking the right courses for the career established is very crucial. Although the majority of universities I would want to go to have varied challenging classes that fit my career, Harper has an accredited program that offers a certificate to be an ultrasound technician.

My schedule has also become an issue when it comes to college and community college can work with flexible schedules. Whether it be part-time or full-time, an individual can work off the payments and still have time for everything else in a busy schedule.

“I want to go to Harper and part time after high school and work so that I can make money and pay off my college courses.” Rodriguez said.

Since Harper is a junior college with two years, a student can take their general classes first and take their difficult classes associated with their career at a university. Harper offers transferring of credits for many classes to many universities around the country. Contacting Harper with transferring information would be beneficial for the type of study desired.

Though I am planning on going to medical school to study radiology in the near future, I plan on having my first career started through Harper. Community college gives chances to those who need to either start a career as soon as possible or just to give a cheap head start to your college experience.
