Boys Varsity Golf

Boys varsity golf recently endured a tough loss to Barrington on their home turf at Palatine Hills Golf Course. No matter the sport, a season wouldn’t be complete without some bumps in the road. The Pirates came in confident and hopeful into one of their most anticipated matches of the year.

“I feel really confident with my swing,” said Brent Penrose. “And if my putting is on today I should be successful.”

“I’m pretty confident, we had a good week of practice and that allows me to go into this match feeling good.” said Matt Helms.

Even though the pirates came out of the match with great scores, they unfortunately weren’t enough to take home the victory against a very talented Barrington team.

“Our guys competed hard, they just caught a couple of bad breaks,” said Coach Johnson.

Penrose and Helms ended the day with scores of 41 and 44, respectively, with fellow senior Max Myszka scoring a 43. The players were shaken up from the defeat, but were analytical and mature about what unfolded that day.

“I couldn’t hit my driver,” said Penrose, “I could have done better, it was overall a good day until the last hole.”
“I had a few bad holes, the last three hurt my score the most,” said Myszka.

Even in the heat of the defeat, the boys held their heads high and look to only improve as the season progresses.
