Jack Whisler is signed up for this class because he has an interest in writing and wants to become better at it. And although he claims to be a pessimist, he seems to be a hard worker. He would rather complete a job knowing the quality of his work was done well, rather than rushing to get it done. He isn't someone who likes to be rushed, so working under pressure isn't really his thing. Not only is he motivated to work hard individually, but he also believes that one of the main components of being a team player is working hard. He's very passionate about sports, and would be interested in combining writing with sports one day, if he chooses to major in some sort of writing in college. Jack says that nothing comes easy to him, and he ended up not trying out for golf at Palatine because he didn't think he would make the team.
