For the past nine years history teacher at Palatine High School Liza Sullivan, has been the coach for the Latin Dance Crew ,in which formed a whole group which had started very small. Sullivan has formed a group where students could express their culture . Sullivan was a former Latin Dancer and now she loves to pass down what she has learned to her crew.

“I love them , they’re like family , there like my kids,” Sullivan said. “I put a lot of time and energy into them. I’m proud of everyone that’s come through my program and I take pride for everything that they do and hope I can leave something positive when they graduate from Palatine,” Sullivan said.

Two of the leaders in Latin dance crew are Dalia Marquez and Christian Rodriguez have been in Latin since their freshman year. They both very much enjoy being a part of the Latin Dance Crew family and having Sullivan as their coach. They have nothing other than great things to say about their experience in the Crew and with the coach.

“Sullivan is so much more than just a coach, she is a person who my entire family and I are incredibly grateful for,” Rodriguez said. “Sullivan is a person who took me under her wing from the start and really pushed me to do better in school and to get my life together. She’s always treated me like her own child. Sullivan to many is a teacher; to others she’s a coach, but to me she’s a second mother. I owe her more than I’ll be able to repay her.”

A most recent dance has been Dance Show which was on Oct. 30 and 31 of 2015 where the Latin Dance Crew Performed their first tango piece. Which is a ballroom dance originating from Bueno Aires.

“They stepped outside of their comfort zone ,we tried something new, it was very risky ,but all went very well and I think the crowed loved it,” Sullivan said.
