Wednesday afternoon once again turned into an unscheduled home game for the Pirates due to Schaumburg’s field being unusable. Palatine was able to take advantage of playing at home and walked away victorious by a score of 3-2.

In the first two innings both teams got a run per inning. After that, both pitchers decided to take the game into their own hands. Senior Charlie Van Dyke recorded 9 strikeouts for the Pirates while Schaumburg’s Max Miller was able to strike out 4 Palatine batters. The pitchers had the game in control, keeping at 2-2 heading into the sixth inning.

Senior Anthony Portera stepped up big for Palatine, hitting a double in the top of the sixth bringing the winning run in the form of sophomore Jake Moertl. The double resulted in Portera’s second RBI of the day, the only player to record 2 RBI’s in the game. Seniors Danny Amato and Dan Schneberger both had 2 hits on the day.

Van Dyke only gave up four hits to the Saxons, posting a 73% strike percentage. Both Schaumburg runs were unearned.

The Pirates return to action on Friday at home against Hersey.
