Girls cross country season overview

The Palatine High School Girls Cross Country team has been having a very eventful season. Starting out the year with their first few meets getting cancelled due to unfortunate weather, no one knew where the season was headed.

On September 5,  the team held their first home meet of the year at Deer Grove Forest Preserve. The team competed against Hersey and Vernon Hills. The Varsity girls took home a win and the JV team won runner-up in their meet. Junior Runner, Daniela Casillas won first place in her race.

“I’m proud of everybody who ran today,” Casillas said. “Everyone did well.”

On Wednesday, Oct 3, the girls attended the Naperville Twilight Invite. The race is viewed as one of the most elite in the state. The team returned to Palatine holding 10th place, along with many of their individual runners who placed very well in their races. After competing in the Twilight Meet,  the Palatine girls can be viewed as the 10th best cross country team in the state of Illinois.

Perhaps the biggest victory for the Lady Pirates was on Oct 20, at the IHSA regional meet where the girls were the champions. Now the team will move on to sectionals at Busse Woods Saturday, Oct 27 and will hopefully advance onto State Finals which will take place Nov 3.
