Hosted in the Palatine High School auditorium, the “A Beautiful Day” speaker panel had business owners talking about their journeys in owning businesses that are involved with the beauty marketing industry. The panel took place on Thursday Nov. 20, while drawing in not only PHS students, but also students from other D211 schools.
“It is the first year that we’re doing this. We’re really excited about it,” College and Career Adviser Susan Turner said. “We’re hoping it really kind of helps kids with knowing all about a career in the beauty industry.”
Students taking marketing classes have been able to learn about the responsibilities that come with including marketing as a part of their careers. They have learned a lot by creating advertisements using the app Canva, as well as how to promote beauty products by using platforms like Instagram and TikTok in order to attract an audience.

“You need to be able to market your services and what you’re able to do for the public,” marketing teacher Adrienne Stewart said. “Information is power.”
Turner and Stewart have been able to showcase their teamwork skills by organizing the event for over 100 attendees, all provided with a space for learning more about owning a business.
They also brought in business owners Nicole Farsalas, Hilda Custodio, Melissa Armstrong, Annette Norwood and Dani Driver. Each of them were able to share their journeys and humble beginnings to now being their own boss for passionate business such as tanning products, nail business, skincare, and a curly hair salon.
At the end of the event, students got the chance to pass around a microphone to ask different types of questions that were associated with owning a business.
Ultimately, the “A Beautiful Day” speaking panel taught students who are interested in the beauty marketing industry to explore their love for beauty, fashion and art by listening to five women share their experiences of owning a business.
Their journeys have shown hard work, self motivation, and being outgoing. These qualities have gotten them to where they are today, inspiring other students to learn more about the beauty marketing industry. This panel gave many students an interest in wanting to take marketing classes as an elective.
