Photo Poll: Snow Days

What did you do during the snow days?
“I tackled some music production, made some interesting projects and I did some artwork. That was about it,” Junior Jason Mayshack said.

Due to cold and snowy weather, PHS was closed on Friday, January 12, and Tuesday, January 16. Because of this, students were able to enjoy a 5-day break from school as the cold days aligned with Martin Luther King Jr. and the weekend.

After coming back to school, Cutlass staff interviewed students about their long weekends.

Karim Melek
Karim Melek, News Editor
Karim is a sophomore at Palatine High School and along with being the News editor at Cutlass, Melek is involved in many activities such as Water Polo, Debate, and Model UN. Melek enjoys traveling and was a part of the 2023 German Exchange trip. His favorite hobbies include playing video games, reading about history, and spending time with friends and family. Melek is also an avid coin collector. He hopes to study international relations and political science in the future.

Casey Heinritz is a sophomore at Palatine High School. Besides writing and taking photos for Cutlass, Heinritz is a tennis player and yearbook photographer. Some of Heinritz's favorite activities are biking, walking his dogs, and cooking. His favorite dish to make is soft tacos. In the future, Heinritz wants to be an electrician. He’s currently taking electronics at PHS. 

Alessandra Mireles
Alessandra Mireles, Reporter

Alessandra Mireles is a sophomore at Palatine High School. She is a reporter for PHS Cutlass and involved with the Mariachi and CAD Drafting club. She has a love for biology and hopes to become a biology major in the future at Chicago University. She has two siblings, a younger brother and older sister, and two pigeons. She loves to read books and comics in her free time outside of school

Anika Tsau
Anika Tsau, Opinions Editor
Anika Tsau is a junior at Palatine High School. She’s very involved in the school’s activities, such as the school’s math team and trivia team. She’s also a drum major in Palatine’s marching band. Tsau loves music, and enjoys writing songs and cranking up the volume to music in her car. Some of her favorite artists include Taylor Swift, Peach Pit, and Sammy Rae. In her free time, Tsau enjoys watching movies, reading books, and is in a band with some of her friends. She’s interested in going into a field involving engineering or biochemistry.
Sonia Jezierski
Sonia Jezierski, Features Editor

Sonia Jezierski is a Senior at Palatine High School and this is her 2nd year being an editor for Cutlass. She is the president of Ecology Club, enjoys testing her scientific knowledge as a captain of Science Olympiad, is the marketer for Foreign Exchnage Club, and the president of Choir. Jezierski also participates in Tri-M, Yearbook Club, Rho Kappa, Student Council, Service Club, NHS, and is a manager of Boy’s Gymnastics. Sonia frequently writes in her free time and enjoys spending her time volunteering at animal shelters. She hopes to study at a 4-year university to become an Environmental Scientist once she graduates high school. 

Allison Ramirez
Allison Ramirez, Reporter
Allison Ramirez is a freshman at Palatine High School and is involved in Cutlass, Fashion club, OLAS, ASL, Yearbook and soccer. They enjoy drawing in sketchbooks, especially painting with acrylic paint in them. Designing digitally on the computer is also one of her strengths. It takes a lot of inspiration and ideas to gather the thoughts for their final piece. Utilizing an imaginative mind, Allison strives to continue this art passion later in life as a graphic designer. 

Tessa Faltinek, Reporter
Tessa Faltinek is a freshman at Palatine High School this year who is involved in many activities and sports. She enjoys beings on the swim team and participating in marching band. In her free time, Faltinek loves reading and some of her favorite genres are Science Fiction and Fantasy.
